Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), on Monday received a delegation from the Nigerian chapter of the High Council of Negerien in Abroad — an umbrella body representing indigenes of Niger Republic residing in Nigeria — during a courtesy visit to his Abuja office.
The delegation was led by Alhaji Usman Mohammed (Chair President, FCT) and Abubakar Namata (Secretary-General), and included several notable members: Abdulkarim Ibrahim (Deputy President, FCT), Alhaji Usman Khalid (Youth Leader), Hajiya Zainab Mustapha Almu Yari (Women Leader, Kebbi), Hajiya Aminatou Abdulkarim (National Woman Leader), Hajiya Zainab (Member, FCT), and Sidi Faruk Zaga (Protocol Officer).
Speaking during the visit, Secretary-General Abubakar Namata commended Malami for his longstanding support and goodwill towards the Nigerien community in Nigeria. “His Excellency Abubakar Malami has shown us what true brotherhood means. He has consistently stood for peace, unity, and mutual respect between our two peoples,” Namata stated.
On her part, National Woman Leader, Hajiya Aminatou Abdulkarim, emphasized the importance of women in promoting cross-border harmony. “We the women of the High Council recognize the pivotal role Malami has played in building a bridge between Nigerien families and their Nigerian hosts. His name is respected in every Nigerien home here,” she said.
In his remarks, Malami thanked the delegation for the visit and reaffirmed his commitment to regional unity. “Nigeria and Niger are one — our bond is not just diplomatic but deeply cultural and spiritual. We are brothers and sisters, united by language, faith, and a shared destiny,” he said.
The visit was concluded with a renewed call for continued collaboration between the Nigerien community in Nigeria and relevant stakeholders to strengthen peaceful coexistence.
