The Federal Government has issued a stern warning to federal universities across the country, cautioning them against the establishment of satellite campuses without obtaining prior ministerial approval.
Minister of State for Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, made this known in a directive to the National Universities Commission (NUC), urging the commission to strictly enforce the existing ban on unauthorized satellite campuses. He emphasized that such practices threaten the integrity of Nigeria’s higher education system and could compromise academic standards.
“The unchecked proliferation of illegal satellite campuses is unacceptable. It undermines the quality of education and misleads unsuspecting students. We must put a stop to this,” Dr. Alausa stated.
According to the Minister, any federal university found violating this directive will face serious sanctions, as the government is determined to uphold quality assurance across all tertiary institutions.
The directive is part of a broader effort by the Ministry of Education to reform the tertiary education landscape and ensure strict compliance with regulatory frameworks established by the NUC.
