Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Makurdi have arrested Dr. Mkor Aondona, the Special Adviser to the Benue State Governor on Documentation, Research, and Planning, over serious allegations of sextortion and cyberbullying.
According to News360 Nigeria, Dr. Aondona was apprehended on Friday, June 20, 2025, following a series of formal complaints lodged by multiple female students.
The victims alleged that the governor’s aide exploited his office by targeting slim and attractive young women for ushering jobs and demanding sexual favors as a condition for their selection. Several of the complainants further claimed that Dr. Aondona clandestinely recorded their private encounters without consent and later used the footage to blackmail them into ongoing sexual relationships.
Sources within the EFCC revealed that some of the explicit materials had already been disseminated through various online messaging platforms, thereby compounding the trauma and humiliation suffered by the victims.
Confirming the development, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale stated:
“We are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the matter. The suspect is in our custody and will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.”
The arrest has sent shockwaves across Benue State, with civil society groups and human rights advocates calling for a full and transparent prosecution to serve as a deterrent to abuse of public office.
As the EFCC continues its probe, there are growing demands for the state government to immediately suspend the aide pending the outcome of the legal process, in order to preserve the integrity of the administration and protect the rights of potential whistleblowers.
