As Nigeria marked the 2025 Democracy Day anniversary, the National Executive President of the Nigeria Youth Organisation (NYO), Comrade Okorie C. Okorie MNCRA, delivered a passionate address calling for unity, accountability, and youth involvement in nation-building, while issuing a stern warning against any attempt to rig the 2027 general elections.
In his Democracy Day press statement, Comrade Okorie extended warm felicitations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR and the Nigerian people, applauding their resilience and commitment to democratic ideals.“June 12th is more than just a date on the calendar; it is a symbol of resilience, courage, and the unyielding spirit of Nigerians who stood firm for democracy, justice, and the right to self-determination,” he stated.
He urged citizens, especially young Nigerians, to uphold the values of equity, justice, fair-play, and good governance. “As the youth of this great nation, we inherit this legacy of bravery and responsibility. It is our duty to continue the fight for transparency, accountability, and good governance,” he added.
Comrade Okorie emphasized the importance of ensuring that the ideals of June 12 are not just remembered annually but practiced daily in the governance and civic life of the nation. He called on youths to remain actively engaged in building a Nigeria where innovation thrives, opportunities are available for all, and peace and unity prevail.
On behalf of the NYO, he encouraged young Nigerians to recommit themselves to the pursuit of social justice and democratic ideals, using this Democracy Day as a rallying point for national development and unity.
In a critical part of his message, Comrade Okorie called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to begin early preparations for the 2027 elections, with a focus on transparency and credibility. He pledged the readiness of Nigerian youths to support INEC in delivering free, fair, and credible polls.
However, he issued a strong warning: “Any attempt by anybody, institution or group of persons to rig the forthcoming 2027 General Election will be grossly resisted by the Nigerian Youths. Enough is Enough.”
The statement concluded with a patriotic call:
“Happy Democracy Day and Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!”
