Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structures in Sokoto and Kebbi states have officially signaled their intent to join a coalition of opposition forces working to dislodge the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both state and national levels.
Leading the charge in Sokoto is former governor and influential political figure, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who has rallied stakeholders of the party behind a broader coalition arrangement. Tambuwal, alongside former state lawmakers, political advisers, and grassroots mobilizers, announced their unanimous decision to align with a unified opposition front.
In Kebbi State, PDP leaders echoed the same determination, stating their commitment to “any genuine coalition effort that offers Nigerians a credible and purposeful alternative to the current APC-led administration.”
While consultations have intensified in recent weeks, coalition leaders from both states confirmed that a final decision on the preferred political platform will be reached within the week, barring any last-minute changes. Though discussions have prominently featured options like the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), no definitive choice has yet been made.
“We are currently reviewing all proposals. What matters most is unity, credibility, and the ability to win,” a top-ranking PDP leader from Kebbi said on condition of anonymity.
The ongoing negotiations underscore growing momentum within opposition ranks to consolidate power and mount a formidable challenge to the APC. Analysts note that the alignment of structures in Sokoto and Kebbi, under the leadership of seasoned politicians like Tambuwal, could mark a turning point in opposition strategy heading into 2027.
