The gallant troops of Operation Hadin Kai have once again demonstrated their unwavering commitment to national security, successfully thwarting a coordinated terrorist attack on their location in New Marte, Borno State, during the early hours of Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
The foiled attack, which was orchestrated by elements of the Boko Haram and ISWAP terror groups, began with an attempted infiltration of the troops’ defensive positions. But in a swift and coordinated response, ground forces engaged the advancing terrorists with fierce gunfire, while the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai provided critical Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) as well as devastating offensive air support.
The combined firepower resulted in the decimation of several insurgents, many of whom were seen fleeing in disarray. The precision of the air strikes also led to the destruction of numerous motorcycles used by the terrorists for mobility and surprise raids.
In the aftermath of the encounter, troops recovered a Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) SUV, abandoned by the terrorists during their hasty retreat. Further exploitation of the area led to the discovery of multiple lifeless bodies of the insurgents, with visible blood trails along the withdrawal route—evidence of additional enemy casualties sustained during the confrontation.
Tragically, two Nigerian soldiers paid the ultimate price in the line of duty, sacrificing their lives to protect their comrades and country. Their courage and selflessness will forever be honored.
In a related development, troops repelled yet another brazen attempt by terrorists to overrun the Forward Operating Base in Kumshe, further showcasing the determination and resilience of Nigerian forces in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
According to a statement signed by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the Theatre Command, Operation Hadin Kai, “the collaborative effort demonstrates the renewed jointness and team spirit in the fight against terrorism, geared towards bringing lasting peace to enable socio-economic activities thrive in the North East region.”
The Nigerian military continues to reassure citizens of its resolve to secure the nation's territory and dismantle the remnants of terror that threaten peace and stability in the region.
