In a surprising political twist, four prominent chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State—Hon. Yakubu, Hon. MK Suru, Prof. Sahabi Mahuta, and Hon. Bala Horse—have collectively thrown their weight behind the possible candidacy of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), urging him to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kebbi State.
The delegation, all close allies of General Aminu Bande, reportedly visited Malami in a private meeting where they appealed to him to answer the call of the people and vie for the top seat. According to insiders, the delegation expressed deep conviction that Malami's popularity, influence, and track record of service would guarantee electoral victory and ensure genuine progress for the people of Kebbi State.
“We are not here on partisan grounds. We are here as sons of Kebbi who believe that the state needs someone with national exposure, a strong network, and a clean vision. Malami represents all of that,” one of the delegation members reportedly stated.
They further assured Malami of their commitment to rallying both political and community-based support, promising to work with him across party lines if he agrees to run.
“If Malami declares, we will align. This is beyond politics; it is about the future of our state,” said Prof. Mahuta.
Though Malami is yet to officially declare his interest in the race, political watchers see this move as a significant shift in Kebbi's political dynamics, especially given the bipartisan nature of the support being canvassed for him. The visit also highlights the growing sentiment among Kebbi elites for competence and unity over political rivalry.
As the countdown to the next election cycle begins, all eyes remain on Malami and whether he will yield to the pressure to throw his hat into the ring.
