The ancient city of Lafia, Nasarawa State, was set aglow as torrents of dignitaries, political heavyweights, and cultural icons converged for a grand civic reception held in honour of the newly appointed Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr. Labaran Shuaibu Magaji. At the heart of this dazzling occasion stood none other than the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Alhaji Abubakar Malami, SAN, CON, who served as Chairman of the occasion, making headlines and stirring fresh political conversations across the North.
Malami, who arrived with a commanding presence, was accompanied by a powerful entourage including his son, Abdulaziz Malami, and renowned political ally Prince Sani Iko, both of whom added glamour and strategic significance to the occasion. Their entrance into Lafia drew eyes and applause, sending a strong message of renewed northern solidarity and elite alliance.
In his address, Abubakar Malami, SAN described the honouree as a seasoned technocrat whose appointment was both deserved and timely. "Barrister Labaran Magaji represents the ideals of modern governance—competence, loyalty, and vision. His emergence as SSG is a reflection of Governor Sule’s firm commitment to excellence,” Malami declared, drawing thunderous applause from a packed audience.
The event, organized by the Nasarawa State Chapter of ALGON, was graced by a rich array of national and state dignitaries including Governor Abdullahi A. Sule, Deputy Governor Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, Senator Umaru Tanko Almakura and His Royal Highness, Hon. Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad I, the Emir of Lafia and Chairman of the Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs. Former SSGs, technocrats, and respected sons and daughters of the state turned out in large numbers to honour one of their own.
Also in attendance was Dr. Faisal Shuaib, OON, who added an intellectual edge to the event. Known for his transformative work in Nigeria’s public health sector, Dr. Shuaib seized the opportunity to mingle with key stakeholders and reaffirm his faith in progressive leadership and inter-state collaboration.
Observers couldn’t help but notice the strategic undertones of the gathering. With Malami’s visible re-engagement in public events, the appearance of his youthful and urbane son Abdulaziz, and the formidable grassroots energy of Prince Sani Iko, political analysts have begun to speculate that this was more than a reception—it was a soft rallying call for northern unity and national relevance.
The grand occasion was marked by cultural performances, tributes, and roaring displays of loyalty. The atmosphere was one of celebration, legacy, and foresight. For many in attendance, it wasn't just about honouring the new SSG—it was a reaffirmation of trust in competence, and perhaps a subtle unveiling of political recalibrations ahead.
