In a major success for ongoing counter-terrorism operations in Nigeria’s northwest, the Nigerian Army has confirmed the elimination of a key terrorist figure, Alhaji Shaudo Alku — a close ally of the notorious bandit kingpin, Bello Turji.
According to an official statement from the Army, the Air Component of Operation Fagge Yamma carried out a precision airstrike on May 18, 2025, targeting a gathering of terrorists near Tunfa Primary School in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The Army disclosed that Alku, a foreign national believed to have been invited from Niger Republic to attend a high-level meeting of terror leaders, was killed alongside several of his men. Preliminary intelligence also indicates that a number of unconfirmed field commanders may have been neutralized in the operation.
“This successful strike is part of ongoing, intelligence-led efforts to dismantle terrorist cells and degrade their operational capabilities across the region,” the Nigerian Army stated.
Alhaji Shaudo Alku has long been identified by security forces as a central figure in Turji’s cross-border network, coordinating logistics and supporting armed campaigns that have plagued communities in Sokoto, Zamfara, and neighboring states.
Military sources say the success of the strike is expected to deal a serious blow to Turji’s operations and further fracture the chain of command within the ranks of his insurgent network.
Residents of the area have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, as mop-up operations and aerial surveillance continue in the region.
The Army reassured Nigerians of its unwavering commitment to restoring lasting peace and security, particularly in areas most affected by banditry and terrorism.
