In a powerful appeal that underscores the deepening political realignment in Kebbi State, Babangida Illo, a close ally of Senator Adamu Aliero, has called on former Attorney General of the Federation, Dr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, to step in and rescue the state by contesting the 2027 governorship election.
Illo made this passionate plea during a visit to Malami’s private office in Abuja earlier today, where he expressed grave concerns over the direction of governance in Kebbi and the need for a decisive, visionary leader to take charge.
> “The state is in urgent need of rescue. We need someone who can restore order, drive development, and unite the people. That person is Malami,” Illo declared.
He noted that despite political differences and alliances in the past, the future of Kebbi must take priority. According to him, Malami’s national experience, deep understanding of governance, and solid reputation make him the ideal candidate to deliver the state from its current challenges.
Babangida Illo, known within political circles as a bridge-builder, emphasized that his visit was not personal but representative of a growing movement of concerned stakeholders, including those previously aligned with other power blocs, who now believe in Malami’s capacity to provide true leadership.
> “Even those of us from other camps have come to the realization that if Kebbi must move forward, we must rally around a man with capacity, character, and clarity of vision — and that man is Abubakar Malami,” he said.
With this high-profile appeal from within the old guard of Kebbi politics, pressure continues to mount on Malami to declare his intention. As calls come from market leaders, youth activists, and now seasoned political actors, it appears the groundwork for a serious and inclusive campaign is steadily being laid.
