2025 Anambra Governorship: INEC Publishes Candidates’ Profiles Ahead Of Polls

By Abu Ismail

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released the personal particulars of all governorship candidates and their running mates contesting in the forthcoming Anambra State election, scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.

This move comes after the conclusion of party primaries and the timely submission of nomination forms by sixteen political parties, who met the May 12, 2025, 6:00 p.m. deadline. The nomination documents were uploaded to INEC’s dedicated portal, which automatically closed at the stipulated time.

In a statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the electoral body affirmed that the particulars—contained in Form EC9—along with academic credentials and other required documents, have been displayed at INEC's state headquarters and its 21 local government offices across Anambra State.

“In line with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022, the Commission has displayed the EC9 forms, academic credentials, and other relevant documents of all candidates and their running mates,” Olumekun stated.

He further emphasized that the publication of these details is not a mere formality but a civic responsibility aimed at transparency and public scrutiny. INEC has therefore appealed to citizens and stakeholders to examine the displayed documents critically.

Moreover, the Commission reminded aspirants who took part in their party primaries that the law empowers them to challenge the nomination of any candidate whom they believe has submitted false information. This legal right, enshrined in Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act, must be exercised at the Federal High Court.

The final list of candidates is expected to be published on June 9, 2025, in compliance with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, which mandates publication at least 150 days before the election.

As the electoral clock ticks, the release of these documents marks a crucial phase in the build-up to what is expected to be a defining contest in Anambra’s political history.
