Awka, Anambra State – Nicholas Ukachukwu has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the November 8, 2025, election, securing a landslide victory in a tumultuous primary held on April 5, 2025. Ukachukwu clinched the ticket with 1,455 votes, dwarfing his closest rival, Valentine Ozigbo, who managed only 67 votes, according to results declared by Governor Bassey Otu, Chairman of the Primary Election Committee.
The primary, conducted in Awka, was anything but smooth. Accreditation kicked off hours late, sparking outrage among aspirants and delegates. Reports of violence and confusion swirled, prompting three contenders—Paul Chukwuma, Obiora Okonkwo, and Chukwuma Umeoji—to withdraw, slamming the process as lacking transparency. Despite the chaos, voting pressed on, with Johnbosco Onunkwo (26 votes) and Edozie Madu (8 votes) trailing far behind.
Ukachukwu’s decisive win positions him as APC’s flagbearer in the race to succeed Governor Charles Soludo. However, the shadow of irregularities looms large, with critics questioning the primary’s credibility. As the dust settles, all eyes turn to November, when Anambra’s voters will decide the state’s next leader.
