In a heartfelt plea to political stakeholders in Kano State, Vice President Kashim Shettima has called for peace, unity, and political tolerance amid rising political tensions in the state.
Shettima made the appeal during a condolence visit to the family of the late Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, who passed away two weeks ago. The Vice President emphasized the importance of setting aside political differences for the greater good of the people.
"Please and please, I plead with you not to allow politics to divide you; you should be united," Shettima urged at the residence of the deceased, adding, "Kano is the heart of the North, and I am from the North. May Allah bring unity among us."
The message was contained in a press release signed by Mustapha Muhammad, Chief Press Secretary to Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
Welcoming the Vice President, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf expressed appreciation on behalf of the government and the people of Kano State.
"We thank you so much for coming to commiserate with us over the death of our father, our grandfather. We pray for Almighty Allah to take you back home safely," the Governor said.
A family representative of the late Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Sunusi Abbas, also thanked the Vice President for the condolence visit and expressed hope that the passing of their patriarch would serve as a rallying point for unity among Kano's political leaders.
"We keep praying, may the demise of Galadiman Kano become an avenue for unity among the political leaders in Kano. We saw every representative of the political parties. We are grateful to the governor who was here at the funeral and came back to condole us again, now he is here with the Vice President—we are truly grateful."
The Vice President’s call comes at a critical time for Kano, where political divisions continue to pose a threat to stability. His message resonated as a timely reminder that the peace and progress of the state must remain paramount.
