In a strategic move to consolidate the strength of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Friday, led members of the National Working Committee (NWC) on a high-profile courtesy visit to Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, at his residence in Kaduna State.

The visit, which signals continued efforts to fortify the internal structure of the party ahead of upcoming political battles, was marked by camaraderie and mutual respect between past and present leaders of the APC. Ganduje was accompanied by the National Secretary of the party, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, and several other prominent members of the NWC.

During the meeting, Ganduje described Buhari as “our mentor and one of the most prominent leaders of our great party,” noting that the visit was not only symbolic but necessary to keep the bond between the party’s past and present leadership alive.

The APC National Chairman briefed the former president on the milestones achieved by the party since he assumed office nearly a year ago. He highlighted the increasing unity within the party’s ranks, successful conflict resolution among aggrieved members, the reintegration of estranged stakeholders, and the party’s expansion at the grassroots level.

“Our visit here today is to draw strength and wisdom from your legacy and to inform you that the APC remains on course. Under your guidance and foundation, we continue to wax stronger. We are rebuilding trust, reconciling members, and pushing for a progressive, united front,” Ganduje said.

In his response, former President Muhammadu Buhari welcomed the delegation warmly and expressed delight at the visit. He commended Ganduje and the entire NWC for their teamwork and steadfast commitment to the ideals of the APC, urging them to remain focused and people-oriented.

“I am pleased with the efforts you’re putting into sustaining the party. It shows continuity and commitment. My prayer and support are always with you. The success of APC at all levels is dear to me, and I will continue to contribute in any way I can,” Buhari said.

The former president also thanked the delegation for keeping him updated and appreciated the symbolic gesture of unity and respect demonstrated by the party’s current leadership.

Political observers see the visit as part of wider consultations and party repositioning efforts as the APC prepares for major elections ahead, especially the 2025 off-cycle governorship contests.

The visit not only reinforces Buhari’s continued relevance in the APC's political equation but also reaffirms Ganduje’s growing influence and firm grip on the party’s administrative machinery.
