Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second term in office is secure, despite ongoing opposition maneuvers ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the special Iftar/Lent dinner organized by the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) in Abuja on Wednesday night, Akpabio expressed confidence in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) securing a sweeping victory in 2027. The dinner, hosted to strengthen unity among APC governors, National Assembly members, ministers, and key government officials, provided a platform for reaffirming the party’s resolve.
“We will offer prayers for our party, that yes, indeed, victory shall be ours in 2027,” Akpabio declared. “And we will also pray for Mr. President that his second term is assured.”
He lauded the PGF under Governor Hope Uzodinma for fostering party cohesion and urged APC leaders to work collectively to achieve the set objectives. Highlighting the APC’s electoral strength, Akpabio noted, “Our governors will grow in numbers, and in the parliament, we will continue to add more numbers. We just recently sent one of our own in the Senate to take care of Edo State. Is that not a good thing?”
Governor Uzodinma emphasized the importance of party unity in governance, urging APC members to fully support the administration. “Since we produce the government, we must take ownership of it,” he stated. “The success of this government is our collective success, and its failure is our collective failure. Government is like a product, and all of us are its marketing officers. We must sell it well.”
He described governance as a “sweet and sour soup,” requiring resilience and teamwork to achieve national prosperity. “Sometimes it is sweet, sometimes it is bitter, but in the end, it is a meal we must all partake in for the progress of Nigeria,” Uzodinma said.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Chief Wale Edun, highlighted the administration’s achievements, particularly in economic recovery. He pointed to a drop in inflation, declining food and energy prices, and a stabilized exchange rate as indicators of progress.
“Inflation is down, food prices are coming down, energy prices are coming down, and the exchange rate is stable,” Edun said. “These improvements directly impact the cost of living. Mr. President continues to make every effort to support the most vulnerable Nigerians.”
The event also served as a unifying platform for both Muslim and Christian faithful, reflecting the spirit of national cohesion. “For coming together—Muslims observing Ramadan, Christians observing Lent—we stand in brotherhood and sisterhood. God will strengthen our party and our nation under President Tinubu’s leadership,” Edun added.
