President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his commitment to ensuring national security without religious bias, emphasizing that insecurity affects all Nigerians, regardless of faith. Speaking during a meeting with the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria at the State House in Abuja, the President dismissed any notion of religious favoritism in his administration’s approach to governance.
“Insecurity affects everyone—Christians, Muslims alike. I have no religious bias; I won’t be a bigot. My wife is a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG),” President Tinubu declared, reassuring religious leaders of his dedication to fairness and inclusivity.
The statement comes at a time when concerns about religious and ethnic tensions are growing amid ongoing security challenges in various parts of the country. The President emphasized that his government is focused on solutions that will benefit all Nigerians, irrespective of their backgrounds.
President Tinubu’s wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is a well-known pastor in the RCCG, a fact he cited to reinforce his position on religious tolerance. His remarks aimed to dispel any doubts about his neutrality in handling the nation's affairs, particularly at a time when opposition figures and critics have attempted to paint his administration as favoring one religious group over another.
The President’s meeting with the Catholic bishops is part of broader engagements with religious and traditional leaders, as his administration seeks to foster national unity and collaboration in addressing insecurity. He called on faith leaders to support his government’s initiatives, emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility that transcends religious or ethnic affiliations.
