In a move signaling his commitment to merit and accountability, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation. Ogunjimi’s selection, confirmed today, follows an intense and transparent process aimed at ensuring the nation’s financial management remains in capable hands.
At 57, Ogunjimi will officially assume office on March 7, 2025, succeeding Oluwatoyin Madehin, who is set to retire the same day. His journey to this prestigious role began last December when he was first named as the preferred successor. However, his appointment was sealed only after excelling in a three-stage selection process that tested his expertise in written assessment, ICT proficiency, and oral interviews.
A graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, with a Master’s from the University of Lagos, Ogunjimi is a distinguished fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. His credentials and experience position him as a capable steward of Nigeria’s financial framework.
President Tinubu, in his congratulatory message, charged Ogunjimi with the responsibility of upholding integrity, professionalism, and efficiency in his new role. This appointment underscores the administration’s unwavering resolve to entrust key national positions to individuals of proven competence and dedication.
