Resignation Galore Rocks Kaduna APC As El-Rufai Plots 2027 Takeover

By Mohammed Bello Doka

A political storm is brewing in Kaduna State as a wave of resignations sweeps through the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling a potential realignment ahead of the 2027 elections. At the center of this upheaval is former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who is reportedly leading a coalition aimed at reclaiming power from the ruling party.

Sources within the APC confirm that several high-ranking party members, including local politicians, appointees, and grassroots mobilizers, have either resigned or are secretly pledging allegiance to alternative political platforms. The exodus is seen as a direct response to internal crises, dwindling party influence, and growing discontent with the current leadership’s performance.

El-Rufai, who governed Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023, remains a towering political figure, and his maneuvering could significantly alter the political landscape of the state. While he has yet to publicly announce his next move, insider reports suggest that he is spearheading the formation of a formidable coalition composed of former APC allies, opposition figures, and disenchanted party members.

"We are building a coalition that truly represents the people of Kaduna. The APC has failed to deliver on its promises, and the people deserve better leadership," an anonymous source close to El-Rufai revealed.

The mass resignations in Kaduna mirror a larger trend across Nigeria, where the APC faces internal divisions and growing dissatisfaction from both party members and the electorate. Political analysts suggest that El-Rufai’s influence, combined with strategic alliances, could pose a serious challenge to the APC’s hold on the state.

Despite the defections, the APC remains defiant. Party spokespersons insist that the party is intact and focused on governance, dismissing the crisis as exaggerated. However, the uncertainty surrounding El-Rufai’s next political move has left the ruling party on edge, with fears that a well-coordinated opposition front could shift power dynamics in 2027.

As the countdown to the next election begins, all eyes are on Kaduna. Will the APC weather this storm, or will El-Rufai’s coalition succeed in toppling the ruling party? The battle for 2027 has already begun.
