The National Executive President of the Nigeria Youth Organisation (NYO), Comrade Okorie C. Okorie, has called for greater national cohesion among Nigerian youths, emphasizing the need for unity in addressing the country’s challenges. He made this appeal during a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, in Abuja on March 21, 2025.
Speaking at the meeting, Okorie commended the minister for his commitment to youth development and national progress. He stressed that the future of Nigeria lies in the hands of its young population and urged them to rise above ethnic, religious, and political divides to foster unity and stability.
NYO’s Commitment to National Unity
During the visit, Okorie presented the 2025 emblem of the Nigeria Youth Organisation, which carries the message:
- "Adequate Security: A Collective Responsibility for All Nigerian Youths."
- "As a Nigerian Youth, I Pledge to Support the Renewed Hope Nigeria Mantra of Making Security a Collective Responsibility."
He emphasized that security and unity go hand in hand, warning that a divided youth population makes it easier for insecurity to thrive. "We must come together as one, regardless of our differences, to build a safer and more prosperous Nigeria," Okorie stated.
Backing Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda
The NYO leader reaffirmed the organization's support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, particularly policies aimed at creating opportunities for young Nigerians. He urged youths to channel their energy into productive ventures that will contribute to national development.
“We are committed to supporting government policies that empower young people. The Honourable Minister is working tirelessly to implement youth-friendly programs, and we must all come together to ensure their success,” Okorie added.
Participation in the National Youth Confab
Okorie also announced NYO’s readiness to participate in the upcoming National Youth Confab, a key platform for engaging with policymakers on youth-related issues. He urged the minister to continue creating avenues for meaningful youth participation in governance and economic growth.
Minister’s Response
In his response, Minister Ayodele Olawande appreciated NYO’s visit and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering young people. He assured that the Tinubu administration remains focused on policies that will enhance national unity and security.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with both parties agreeing on the need for continuous engagement to promote peace, security, and national development.
