Fubara’s Silence Is Not Weakness – Rivers SSG Warns

The Secretary to the Government of Rivers State (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, has issued a stern warning against misinterpreting Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s calm demeanor as a sign of weakness. His caution comes amid rising tensions and criticism, particularly from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

 

No Danagogo’s remarks follow Wike’s condemnation of his decision to sign a letter inviting lawmakers for a meeting with the Governor, a move the Minister dismissed as “useless.” Speaking at the commissioning of Okrika Grammar School in Okrika, the SSG defended his actions, asserting that facilitating such communication falls squarely within his constitutional duties. He noted that he performed similar functions under Wike’s own administration, where he also served as SSG.

Dismissing allegations of overreach, Danagogo stated that his response was purely to correct misleading narratives, not to engage in political bickering. He praised Governor Fubara’s composure in the face of provocation, particularly the recent blockade of the state assembly complex, which prevented the Governor from presenting the budget. While past governors might have reacted with force, Fubara, he noted, has chosen restraint to protect the people’s welfare.

He assured Rivers residents that the government remains committed to economic stability and progress, adding that Fubara’s refusal to escalate political tensions is a testament to his leadership, not a sign of surrender.
