Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed allegations linking him to militant groups, condemning the spread of fake social media posts and videos aimed at inciting unrest in the state.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara denounced fabricated videos claiming explosions at oil and gas facilities, noting that affected communities had already debunked the claims. The governor reaffirmed that critical infrastructure in the state remains intact and operational.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has no link to any militant group, does not contemplate any such association, and has no reason to encourage any criminal elements to undertake actions that threaten peace, security, or the economy,” the statement read.
Fubara reiterated his commitment to peace and stability in Rivers State, warning against the exploitation of the ongoing political crisis for selfish gains. He also cautioned bloggers and social media influencers against peddling falsehoods, emphasizing that such actions could escalate tensions.
The governor called on security agencies to investigate and take firm action against those responsible for spreading misinformation.
