Breaking: Akpabio Alleges Plot To Remove Him As Senate President

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has alleged that certain individuals are working tirelessly to see him ousted from office, accusing them of exploiting opposition politics while ignoring substantive issues.

Speaking at the Senate Guest House in Maitama, Abuja, on Friday night during a meeting with youth leaders from various ethnic groups, Akpabio stated that those pushing for his removal are well-versed in Senate rules on ethical conduct but are deliberately sidestepping key matters.

Although he refrained from naming anyone, it is widely believed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki—who have both called for his resignation over the case involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central)—are among those leading the charge.

Akpabio, however, remained defiant, reminding his critics that his leadership represents not just his constituency or political party but an entire region that has not held the Senate Presidency in 46 years.

“The first time the Niger Delta had a Senate President, as you rightly noted, was 46 years ago. Whatever the opposition may do, we will not treat that office lightly,” he declared.

His remarks underscore the deepening political battle over the Senate leadership, setting the stage for further intrigue and resistance.
