In a decisive move to strengthen legislative administration in Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr. Saviour Enyiekere as the new Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC). Enyiekere, an environmental specialist and former Deputy Chief of Staff to the Senate President, will serve a renewable five-year term, bringing his vast experience in governance and administration to the commission.
The NASC plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of the National Assembly, overseeing its bureaucratic framework, and providing necessary support for lawmakers to function effectively. With this appointment, President Tinubu signals his commitment to fostering a more efficient and responsive legislative structure.
Additionally, the President has approved the appointment of 12 commission members, selecting two representatives from each of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones:
North West: Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi, Hon. Yusuf A. Yusuf Tabuka
North East: Aminu Ibrahim Malle, Alhaji Lawan Maina Mahmud
North Central: Mark Hanmation Tersoo, Salihu Umar Agboola Balogun
South West: Hon. Taiwo Olukemi Oluga, Hon. Afeez Ipeza-Balogun
South East: Hon. Dr. Nnanna Uzor Kalu, Festus Ifesinachi Odii
South South: Patrick A. Giwa, Mrs. Mary Ekpenyong
Like the chairman, all members will serve a renewable five-year term. The selection reflects a deliberate effort to maintain regional balance and expertise in managing the legislative workforce, ensuring that the National Assembly remains a pillar of democratic governance in Nigeria.
This latest appointment is in line with President Tinubu’s broader reforms aimed at improving governance efficiency across key institutions. Political analysts see the move as part of his strategy to solidify institutional structures and enhance service delivery within Nigeria’s democratic system.
