In a significant move aimed at revitalizing Nigeria’s water resources management, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the executive management teams for twelve River Basin Development Authorities under the Ministry of Water Resources. Among the newly appointed officials is Dr. Abdullahi Kutso, who has been named Executive Director, Planning and Design for the Upper Niger River Basin Development Authority, Minna, covering Niger, Kaduna, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The announcement was made through a statement by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, outlining the names and designations of the new appointees across the various river basins. The restructuring is part of President Tinubu’s broader agenda to enhance the efficiency of critical national agencies and improve water resource management for economic and agricultural development.
Dr. Kutso’s appointment to the Upper Niger River Basin Development Authority is expected to bolster infrastructure planning, water resource sustainability, and agricultural expansion within the region. The Upper Niger River Basin Development Authority, where Dr. Kutso will serve, plays a critical role in water supply and agricultural irrigation across Niger, Kaduna, and the FCT, areas that rely heavily on structured water management for economic activities.
