In a fiery response to mounting pressure, Naja’atu Muhammad, the founder of the Northern Star Youth Initiative, has made it clear that she will neither retract her statement nor apologize to Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA). Her remarks, which have sparked controversy, allege that Ribadu had once reprimanded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume, and Senator Orji Kalu of Abia North.
In a video widely circulated on social media, Muhammad stood firm, daring Ribadu and his supporters to take any action they deemed necessary. “I stand by my words. I will not apologize. Do your worst,” she declared defiantly, sending a strong message that she was ready to confront any backlash from her statement.
The controversy surrounding Ribadu has deepened in recent weeks, with his critics questioning his effectiveness as NSA. Some political analysts have called for his removal, citing his handling of Nigeria’s security challenges and his alleged unsubstantiated claims about former President Muhammadu Buhari. An opinion piece published in The Guardian Nigeria even argued that President Tinubu should sack Ribadu, describing him as “unfit for NSA.”
Adding to the criticism, reports indicate that bandits have continued to overrun security agencies in several regions, exacerbating concerns over the country’s worsening security situation. A report by People’s Voice detailed how security operatives are struggling to contain escalating violence, further raising questions about Ribadu’s leadership and ability to manage national security effectively.
Nuhu Ribadu, a former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was appointed as NSA by President Tinubu on June 19, 2023, with the hope that his background in law enforcement would help tackle Nigeria’s security woes. However, many argue that his tenure has yet to yield the expected improvements, fueling calls for his resignation or dismissal.
Muhammad’s latest statement has intensified the debate, as she refuses to be silenced by what she describes as political intimidation. “This is not about personal fights but about the truth. Those who cannot handle the truth are the ones panicking,” she added, further cementing her position.
