Bwala’s Revelation on TVC: How Tinubu’s Loyalists Were Abandoned for Former Opponents

By Mohammed Bello Doka

The rise of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to power was fueled by the unwavering commitment of his core supporters—those who stood by him through thick and thin, braving the fiercest political storms to secure his victory. Yet, today, many of these loyalists feel sidelined and abandoned, watching as those who actively opposed Tinubu’s candidacy now occupy positions of influence and power in his administration.

While fostering unity and making new alliances is a noble political strategy, sidelining 97% of the original supporters in favor of former adversaries is a betrayal of the principles of equity, justice, and fairness that Tinubu himself championed. The irony is not lost on those who sacrificed for the cause, only to see their efforts rewarded with neglect while former detractors now dictate the course of governance.

This growing frustration among Tinubu’s loyalists was recently reinforced by Dr. Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser on Policy Communications to the President, during an interview on TVC News. Bwala made a startling revelation, stating that “90 to 97% of those around Mr. President today had previously worked against him, including myself.” His admission underscores a painful reality: those who once stood in opposition to Tinubu are now in positions of power, while his most ardent supporters watch from the sidelines.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) remains the dominant force in Nigeria’s political landscape, yet those who toiled to secure its stronghold under Tinubu’s leadership are now left on the margins. If this trend continues, it risks creating disillusionment within the party’s ranks, weakening the very foundation that brought Tinubu to power.

As the administration progresses, it is crucial for the President to recalibrate his approach, ensuring that loyalty and dedication are not disregarded in the name of political reconciliation. The voices of those who stood by him should not be ignored, for history has shown that when loyal supporters feel abandoned, the political consequences can be far-reaching.
