The Director of Special Service, AVM Ibrahim Umaru (retd.), has urged a unified approach to combat the rising menace of illicit drugs in Kano State and beyond. Speaking at a press briefing, he emphasized the importance of collaboration among federal agencies, including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
AVM Umaru highlighted the government's firm commitment to eradicating substandard products and illicit drugs. He announced the establishment of mechanisms aimed at promoting youth empowerment and sustainable livelihoods, recognizing these as essential strategies to curb drug abuse and associated social problems.
The retired Air Vice Marshal also stressed the pivotal role of community policing in fostering strong partnerships among stakeholders. He called on community leaders, parents, and institutions to join forces in guiding young people, protecting them from the dangers of drug abuse, and ensuring their future is safeguarded.
Under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Kano State remains dedicated to creating a peaceful and secure environment. AVM Umaru called on all stakeholders to stand united in their efforts to eliminate the scourge of illicit drugs and build a society that guarantees a brighter future for its youth.
The event signified the beginning of what is expected to be a strong and enduring partnership among federal and state agencies, community organizations, and individuals committed to tackling this critical issue.
