China has imposed sanctions on several American defense companies following their involvement in arms sales to Taiwan, a move Beijing describes as a violation of its sovereignty. The sanctions, announced by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, underscore escalating tensions between the world’s two largest economies over the self-governed island.
Beijing's latest action targets firms such as Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman, which have been key players in supplying military equipment to Taiwan. "The United States must stop its provocative arms sales to Taiwan and cease all forms of military collusion," a spokesperson for the ministry said, reiterating China’s longstanding position that Taiwan is an inalienable part of its territory.
The sanctions will restrict these companies from engaging in any economic activities within China, including trade, investment, and partnerships. Additionally, individuals associated with the sanctioned firms may face travel bans and asset freezes.
