In a bold and decisive operation, troops of 1 Brigade, Sector 2 Operation Fansan Yamma, apprehended a 25-year-old ammunition courier, Shamsiyya Ahadu, on December 28, 2024. The suspect was intercepted in the Badarawa area of Shinkafi Local Government Area, Zamfara State, while attempting to deliver 764 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and six magazines to the camp of infamous terrorist leader Bello Turji.
Shamsiyya was arrested alongside her accomplice, Ahmed Husaini, a motorcycle rider who played a critical role in transporting the illicit arms. Acting on credible intelligence regarding the movement of terrorist logistics along the Kware-Badarawa road, the troops swiftly established a roadblock to intercept the suspects. This swift response underscores the military's commitment to disrupting the supply chains fueling terrorist activities in the region.
The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation by appropriate authorities to unravel the broader network of collaborators involved in supplying arms and ammunition to terrorist groups.
Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordinating Centre for Operation Fansan Yamma, confirmed the arrest and praised the professionalism and vigilance of the troops involved. He noted that the operation demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-driven military actions in curbing the illegal movement of arms and neutralizing threats.
"This operation highlights our commitment to dismantling terrorist networks and ensuring the safety of communities within our theater of operation," Abdullahi stated. He also expressed gratitude for the unwavering support and cooperation of local residents, urging them to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to security agencies.
The arrest of Shamsiyya Ahadu is a significant blow to the operations of Bello Turji, a notorious figure known for orchestrating numerous violent attacks in Zamfara State and its environs. By disrupting the flow of arms to his camp, the military has once again reaffirmed its resolve to weaken and ultimately eliminate terrorist activities in the region.
Operation Fansan Yamma, a counterterrorism initiative launched to address insecurity in the Northwest, has recorded numerous successes, including the recovery of arms, neutralization of terrorist operatives, and the restoration of peace in affected areas. The operation's leadership has reiterated its dedication to working closely with the public to achieve lasting security and stability.
