President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the newly elected leadership of the Nigeria chapter of the International Press Institute (IPI), praising their commitment to journalistic excellence and democratic values. The President’s message follows the successful re-election of Mr. Musikilu Mojeed, editor-in-chief of PREMIUM TIMES, as President of IPI Nigeria. Other key media figures elected alongside him include Ahmed Shekarau of Media Trust as Secretary, Fidelis Mbah of Al Jazeera Television as Deputy President, Rafatu Salami of Voice of Nigeria as Treasurer, Yomi Adeboye of Herald Newspaper as Assistant Secretary, and Tobi Soniyi of Arise News as Legal Adviser.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu lauded the leadership’s track record in promoting responsible journalism, transparency, and accountability. He emphasized the critical role of the press in a thriving democracy, urging the newly elected leaders to maintain and build upon these ideals.
“The new leadership of IPI Nigeria has an important role in ensuring responsible journalism that prioritizes the national interest, as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution,” the President said. He highlighted the media’s power to shape public opinion and influence policy, calling for a balanced and objective approach in their reporting.
