The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) continues to showcase its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, with a series of major successes in combating kidnapping, armed robbery, and other crimes across the nation. Under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the NPF has strengthened its operations, ensuring a safer environment as the festive season approaches.
In Katsina State, police operatives demonstrated exceptional bravery during two separate rescue operations on December 7, 2024. Along the Katsina-Magamar Jibia road, bandits ambushed a vehicle with 10 occupants, but the police intervened, engaging the criminals in a gunfight and rescuing all victims unharmed. Similarly, along the Funtua-Gusau road, another 10 victims were rescued after a swift police response thwarted an ambush by suspected bandits.
In Akwa Ibom State, a young woman abducted for potential forced prostitution was rescued on December 4. The suspect, Abraham Patrick Francis, was arrested, and further raids in the state’s Amayam and Ikot Ukpong Villages led to the rescue of two more victims. Firearms, including locally fabricated guns and live cartridges, were also recovered, while two suspected kidnappers were neutralized in a heated exchange of gunfire.
Rivers State police operatives brought hope to a family after rescuing 10-year-old Emmanuel John from his captor. Following the arrest of the suspect, Nwile Bete, decisive investigative work led to the child’s safe return.
In Taraba State, police intercepted a kidnapping gang at Dutsen Mubayu on December 6. A fierce gunfight resulted in the rescue of three victims and the recovery of firearms, including AK-47 rifles and ammunition. The arrest of a notorious kidnapping kingpin, Idris Alhaji Jaoji, alongside an accomplice, Jibo Alhaji Mai, further disrupted criminal networks in the region.
Additionally, operatives in Zone 4 Police Command neutralized a notorious armed robbery syndicate along the Makurdi-Lafia Highway. Arrests of key members, including Terhemba Dabo and seven others, led to the recovery of weapons, police and military paraphernalia, and other items linked to their criminal operations.
IGP Egbetokun commended the officers for their relentless efforts and assured Nigerians of heightened security measures during the festive season. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure a safe and joyous celebration.
These achievements underline the NPF's dedication to combating crime and fostering public safety. As the country prepares for the holidays, the message from the police is clear: criminal elements will find no refuge.
