The Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of the 22nd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has achieved major milestones in its fight against crime. Through strategic intelligence and coordinated operations, the force recently recovered N129 billion in counterfeit currencies, arrested three suspected gunrunners, and rescued 36 kidnapped victims in separate operations across the country.
Major Counterfeit Currency Bust in Kano
On December 8, 2024, police operatives in Gwale, Kano State, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted counterfeit notes amounting to over N129 billion. Among the recovered currencies were N392,000 fake naira notes, USD7,800 in counterfeit dollars, and fake CFA francs.
The operation led to the arrest of a suspect, Nura Ibrahim, and further investigations resulted in the capture of his accomplices, Muhammed Muntari and Usman Abdullahi. Several ATM cards linked to fraudulent activities were also seized, marking a significant blow to counterfeit currency syndicates operating in the region.
Gunrunners Nabbed Along Kaduna-Kano Expressway
In a separate operation on December 9, 2024, along the Kaduna-Kano expressway, police operatives apprehended three suspected gunrunners. The suspects—Buhari Suleiman, Jamil Yakubu, and Aliyu Abdullahi—were arrested following suspicious activities.
Upon searching their belongings, the operatives recovered 216 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and a single round of AK-47 ammunition. This decisive action disrupted a potential threat to public safety and reaffirmed the Police Force’s commitment to curbing the proliferation of illegal arms in Nigeria.
Kidnapped Victims Rescued in Kebbi State
In Kebbi State, police operatives rescued 36 kidnapped victims on December 8, 2024, along the Mairairai/Bena Road in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area. The victims, who were returning from their farms, were swiftly freed from captivity.
Following the rescue, police officials visited the affected community to debrief the victims and reassure residents of their ongoing efforts to ensure their safety and security.

Speaking on these achievements, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, reiterated the force’s unwavering dedication to protecting the lives and property of Nigerians. He emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force will continue to combat economic sabotage, gunrunning, and other forms of criminality across the nation.
