In a bid to enhance Nigeria's oversight and integrity framework, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated three new members to join the board of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB). This move is seen as a step towards reinforcing accountability and ethical compliance within the public service.
The announcement was conveyed in an official letter to the Senate President, highlighting the President's intent to fill existing vacancies on the board. The nominees are Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle from Oyo State, Kennedy Ikpeme from Cross River State, and Justice Ibrahim Buba, a retired Federal High Court judge. Their inclusion is expected to bolster the Bureau’s capacity to monitor the conduct of public officers and ensure adherence to Nigeria’s ethical standards.
The Code of Conduct Bureau, established in 1979, plays a pivotal role in maintaining the integrity of public service in Nigeria. It operates with a 10-member board, tasked with overseeing public sector ethics and preventing corruption. President Tinubu recently swore in the board's chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Usman Bello, on October 23, 2024. The current board also includes notable figures like Barrister Muritala Aliyu Kankia, Honorable E. J. Agbomayinma, Barrister Ben Umeano, and Professor Juwayriyya Badamasiuy, among others.
The nominations signal President Tinubu's ongoing commitment to transparency and his administration's efforts to strengthen Nigeria's governance structures.
