Strengthening Security: Acting Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede Visits Troops in Sokoto

In a significant move to bolster security efforts, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the Acting Chief of Army Staff, commenced his maiden operational tour in Sokoto State on November 10, 2024. His visit covered the 8 Division Area of Responsibility, including stops at Forward Operations Base Tangaza and the 248 Battalion in Illela.

On arrival, Lt. Gen. Oluyede was briefed by Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose, General Officer Commanding the 8 Division, on the current security situation. Acknowledging the troops' dedication and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and insurgency, the Acting COAS emphasized his commitment to supporting them on all fronts.

“The Nigerian Army belongs to the people,” Lt. Gen. Oluyede declared, underscoring the vital role of public cooperation. He called for reliable intelligence sharing from the local population, highlighting that community support is key to the success of military operations.

The Acting COAS also held talks with Hon. Bashir Salihu, Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area, along with traditional leaders and heads of security agencies in Illela, stressing the need for unified action in safeguarding Nigeria.
