The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), led by its Director General Umar Ibrahim Mohammed, recently welcomed members of the House Committee on Delegated Legislations to the agency's office in Abuja. This familiarization visit served as a platform for NIHSA to showcase the importance of its legislative framework in managing the nation's water resources, generating revenue, and addressing critical hydrological challenges.
In his opening address, the Director General expressed his appreciation to the Committee, introducing them to NIHSA’s proposed Regulation for Hydrological Services in Nigeria 2024. Mohammed emphasized the pivotal role of the agency’s regulatory initiatives in confronting urgent issues like flood control, water scarcity, and environmental sustainability. He outlined NIHSA’s active steps towards a more coordinated national hydrological strategy, highlighting the agency’s contributions to flood risk management and climate resilience.
The Committee was also briefed by NIHSA’s departmental directors, who provided in-depth presentations on their respective areas, offering a comprehensive view of the agency’s initiatives and operational scope.
Chairman of the House Committee, Rt. Hon. Olufemi Richard Bamidele, commended NIHSA's efforts in advancing water resource management and reaffirmed the Committee's support for NIHSA’s legislative mandates. He expressed the Committee's dedication to ensuring these mandates are implemented effectively, emphasizing the mutual goal of sustainable hydrological policies for the betterment of all Nigerians.
The visit concluded with a tour of NIHSA's facilities, deepening the Committee's insight into the agency's operations.
