In a move to elevate agricultural productivity in Nigeria's North East, the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF) has launched a pilot program, starting with the donation of 25 water-pumping machines to farmers in Taraba State. This initiative is part of NLTF's broader strategy to support dry-season farmers nationwide by providing essential agricultural equipment to tackle irrigation challenges, aiming to improve crop yields and drive economic growth.
Speaking at the event, Comrade Tosin Adeyanju, Executive Secretary/CEO of NLTF, represented by Mallam Sagir Ahmed Mohd, an Assistant Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, emphasized the organization’s dedication to empowering rural communities. "We are here to demonstrate our unwavering commitment to sustainable agricultural development," he stated. "This donation aligns with our mission to promote GOOD CAUSES for citizens, communities, and the downtrodden across the country, thereby enhancing food security, economic growth, and poverty reduction."
Comrade Adeyanju also highlighted NLTF's previous contributions in Taraba State, citing the provision of sports equipment to 59 primary schools, first-aid kits to 9 secondary schools, medical tools for Bali's General Hospital, and numerous empowerment programs targeting women and youth. He stressed the significance of irrigation in boosting agricultural productivity and equipping farmers to face the challenges of climate change.
"We thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and vision for a better Nigeria, prioritizing agricultural development, rural transformation, and inclusive growth," Adeyanju remarked, commending the President's "Renewed Hope" mandate.
Hon. Nassir Muhammed, representing the Gassol Local Government Chairman, expressed deep gratitude for the initiative, predicting a transformative impact on local farming practices and the community’s resilience to climate change. Similarly, Mohammed Lawali Lau, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, lauded the donation’s potential to drive economic growth, create jobs, and contribute to food security through sustainable farming.
The NLTF has promised to monitor the effective use of the machines, ensuring they serve their intended purpose and boost the well-being of Taraba's rural population.
