The 2024 Conference of Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs) and Communications Experts, held in Asaba, Delta State, concluded in grand style on November 21, 2024, with a regimental dinner celebrating the achievements of the participants and the event’s objectives.
Themed “Strengthening the Nigeria Police Force Oversight and Accountability,” the conference provided an opportunity to equip Police PROs with critical communication skills, enhance accountability, improve human relations, and rebuild public trust. The event, which began on November 18, brought together seasoned resource persons, public relations experts, non-governmental organizations, and international stakeholders to address key aspects of modern policing.
A major highlight of the event was the recognition and commendation of exemplary officers. The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, represented by the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, and the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, presented awards to standout Police PROs. Honorees included the PPROs of FCT, Bauchi, Delta, and Abia States, as well as ASP Julius Robinson, a tactical team commander in Delta State Command. These awards underscored the importance of diligence and professionalism in policing.
Dr. Egbetokun commended the conference as a significant milestone toward effective policing strategies. He extended gratitude to the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for hosting the event, and acknowledged the support of various agencies, organizations, and individuals. The IGP also reiterated his commitment to fostering innovation and accountability within the Nigeria Police Force, urging the public to embrace the reforms aimed at delivering better security and socio-economic growth nationwide.
This year’s PPROs Conference not only advanced the objectives of effective communication and accountability but also highlighted the pivotal role of police-community relations in achieving lasting peace and development.
