In a decisive series of law enforcement operations, the Nigeria Police Force has made significant strides under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, as they continue to intensify efforts to tackle violent crime across the nation. In a press release, the Force revealed impressive outcomes in crime-fighting initiatives, spotlighting the arrest of a prominent arms dealer operating in Plateau State and the apprehension of over 1,200 suspects linked to various criminal cases within the month of October alone.
The report highlights that since October 1, the Nigeria Police have apprehended 371 armed robbery suspects, 186 kidnapping suspects, 242 murder suspects, and 217 rape suspects. Additionally, 167 individuals suspected of cultism were detained, while 63 suspects were arrested for unlawful possession of firearms. Law enforcement also successfully recovered 210 firearms, 3,172 rounds of ammunition, and 118 stolen vehicles, demonstrating the Force's relentless commitment to disrupting crime networks and safeguarding communities.
Among the notable breakthroughs, police operatives arrested Jubril Musa, a major arms dealer in Plateau State. Musa was found in possession of a range of weaponry, including a Makarov pistol, a fabricated pistol, several rounds of 7.62mm and 9mm ammunition, and ammunition commonly used in high-caliber firearms. Musa admitted to supplying weapons to bandits and kidnappers, underscoring the critical need for intelligence-driven policing and sustained efforts to dismantle arms trafficking channels.
IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to public safety, emphasizing the integration of tactical operations, intelligence-based policing, and community engagement to achieve substantial reductions in crime. He reassured Nigerians that the Force is dedicated to upholding the rule of law, reducing criminal activities, and ensuring the highest standards of professionalism in securing lives and property.
This month’s achievements reinforce the ongoing mission of the Nigeria Police to curb violence and maintain peace across the country, reflecting the IGP’s vision for a safer, more secure Nigeria.
