In a solemn show of unity and respect, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., joined officials from the Defence Headquarters in a condolence visit to Mrs. Mariya Lagbaja, widow of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoheed Lagbaja. The visit, which took place at the late General’s official residence in Abuja, brought together top figures of Nigeria's security apparatus, including the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, Minister of State Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, MON, Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, and other senior officers.
Speaking on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force, the IGP expressed profound admiration for the late COAS’s contributions, calling Lt. Gen. Lagbaja "a great man who dedicated his life and wealth of experience to defending our nation's security." He highlighted the General's critical role in the national fight against insurgency and terrorism, a commitment that cemented his legacy as a stalwart of peace and stability in Nigeria.
The loss of Gen. Lagbaja, the IGP noted, leaves a deep void within Nigeria's armed forces and among those who worked closely with him. “Gen. Lagbaja’s death is a great loss to our dear country and has surely created a vacuum,” he reflected, underscoring the challenges that now face the nation as it continues to battle threats to national security.
On behalf of the Police Force and the Armed Forces, the IGP extended his condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Armed Forces of Nigeria, and the grieving family and friends. He prayed for strength and peace for all who mourn the loss of a leader who gave his all to his country.
The tribute concluded with a prayer that the Almighty grants the late General’s family the fortitude to bear this profound loss, even as the nation honors the memory of a remarkable defender.
