The Director General of the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), Umar Ibrahim Mohammed, recently welcomed Biyi Fafunmi, Director of the Agric & Business Enterprise Statistics Department at the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and Chairman of the Data Subcommittee for the Ward-Based Agriculture Project, during a courtesy visit.
The visit aimed to brief Mohammed on the Ward-Based Agriculture Project, a significant initiative targeting the establishment of a comprehensive Agriculture Data Governance Ecosystem in Nigeria. The project focuses on refining data collection and delivery systems at the ward level to facilitate better agricultural decision-making, policy development, and resource management nationwide.
During the meeting, Fafunmi presented the core objectives of the project. These objectives include creating a strong framework for managing agricultural data and integrating it effectively with other critical data sets, such as hydrological and environmental information. This integration is expected to strengthen agricultural planning, enhance productivity, and support Nigeria's sustainable development goals.
Umar Ibrahim Mohammed voiced his support for the project, emphasizing NIHSA’s role in water resource management as a key factor in the project's success. He underscored the necessity of accurate and timely data for addressing agricultural and hydrological challenges across the country. Mohammed reiterated NIHSA's readiness to collaborate with the NBS in fostering a data-driven, sustainable agriculture ecosystem for Nigeria's future.
