The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has refuted claims that the Appeal Court nullified the election of Musiliu Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo. Speaking on the matter, Alhaji Moshood Ajao, the South West Coordinator of the Elders Forum and Senior Special Adviser to the President, clarified that there was no legal basis to challenge Akinsanya's election.
According to Alhaji Ajao, Akinsanya was legitimately elected during the zonal delegates conference of the NURTW, which took place in Osogbo on November 9, 2024. He emphasized that neither Akinsanya nor the conference had any involvement in the court proceedings discussed, noting that MC Oluomo did not initiate the appeal deemed "devoid of merit."
The alleged Appeal Court judgment, delivered in Abuja on November 8, 2024, occurred a day before the zonal election in Osogbo. Ajao stressed that neither the delegates nor Akinsanya were aware of any legal decision when they proceeded with the election. He also pointed out that while the Union did have a case earlier in the year at the Industrial Court, Akinsanya was neither a plaintiff nor a defendant in that matter.
Highlighting the decision to appoint Akinsanya as President of the NURTW, Alhaji Ajao explained that it was a strategic move aimed at fostering stability and unity within the Union. Akinsanya's election, he affirmed, was a step towards ensuring peace, given his detachment from any legal conflicts or leadership disputes within the organization.
