President Bola Tinubu has commended NIPCO Plc for its significant investments in Nigeria’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) sector, which he said aligns with his administration's efforts to boost energy security and diversify the economy. Speaking at a meeting with NIPCO executives at the State House in Abuja, President Tinubu highlighted the company's crucial role in the nation's energy transition, especially through its support for the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI).
The President praised NIPCO for driving the "Switch to CNG" campaign, which has increased public awareness and provided affordable CNG conversion kits, even ahead of the official launch of the Presidential CNG Initiative. He underscored that CNG, being a cleaner and more affordable fuel, not only reduces the carbon footprint but also significantly cuts fuel costs for Nigerian consumers.
"Motorists now have the choice between petrol at N1,000 per litre or CNG at N200 per Standard Cubic Meter. We have also introduced incentives for commercial drivers to convert from petrol to gas free of charge," President Tinubu noted. He emphasized that public-private partnerships like this are essential to expanding Nigeria's CNG infrastructure, enhancing energy efficiency, and supporting economic growth.
NIPCO's Director, Mr. Ramesh Kasangra, who led the delegation, expressed appreciation for the President's support, reaffirming the company's commitment to furthering its partnership with the government. He assured President Tinubu that NIPCO would continue to invest in infrastructure to make CNG more accessible across the country.
With over four decades of experience in various sectors within Nigeria, NIPCO remains dedicated to the nation's long-term growth and the pursuit of a sustainable energy future.
