In a significant healthcare intervention, the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF) has donated multi-million naira worth of medical equipment to Primary Healthcare Center Ikoyi and Cottage Hospital Iyah-Gbede in Kogi State. The donation, aimed at bridging the healthcare gap in rural areas, underscores the NLTF’s commitment to promoting “GOOD CAUSES” for citizens and communities.
Comrade Tosin Adeyanju, Executive Secretary of the NLTF, who was represented by Director of Admin and Corporate Services Rabiu Adamu, highlighted the initiative's alignment with the federal government’s healthcare goals. "This gesture not only reflects our mission but also resonates with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope mandate," Adeyanju noted. He emphasized that the equipment would significantly enhance healthcare services and urged the beneficiary communities to take ownership of the donation for its proper utilization.
Representing the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Hon. Zephaniah Jisalo, Mrs. Margaret Mchivga called for optimal use of the donated equipment and stressed its maintenance and security as a priority for the community's well-being.
Mallam Danlami Aliyu Tsafe, standing in for the Permanent Secretary, echoed the sentiment, encouraging responsible management of the equipment while hinting at future support for healthcare initiatives.
The traditional leadership also recognized the impact of the intervention. Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni, the Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom, acknowledged the significance of the donation, describing it as a step toward “enhancing the quality of life” in the community. He asserted that "health is wealth" and praised the Federal Government's support.
Expressing gratitude, community representatives like Mrs. Ajayi Aiyetan from Ikoyi Primary Healthcare and Comrade Dare Oguntebi of the Ikoyi Community Development Association underscored the equipment's importance for the multi-ethnic local population. They lauded the NLTF for addressing longstanding medical equipment shortages in the area.
The National President of the Iyah-Gbede Development Association, Prince E.O. Jeminiwa, affirmed the community’s appreciation for the NLTF's efforts, pledging support for President Tinubu’s administration while urging the government to address broader infrastructure needs such as roads and education.
Among the equipment donated were diagnostic tools, surgical and patient care items, and essential laboratory devices, including angle poised lamps, 3D ultrasound machines, hospital beds, surgical tables, and ECG machines. The communities have committed to setting up monitoring teams to ensure the equipment’s judicious use.
The NLTF’s contribution marks a significant stride in the quest to improve healthcare delivery in underserved regions, promising a healthier future for the residents of Ikoyi and Iyah-Gbede.
