Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the worsening economic conditions faced by Nigerians. Speaking in Abuja, Ndume expressed deep concern over the rising costs of fuel, food, and essential goods, which he described as a direct threat to the survival of the populace.
While recognizing the good intentions of President Tinubu, the senator attributed the current crisis to individuals within the administration who, he claims, are pushing harmful reforms and policies. According to Ndume, these elements are deliberately sabotaging the government's efforts, fueling inflation and worsening the exchange rate rather than addressing the pressing economic challenges.
He particularly condemned the recent increase in fuel prices at NNPC stations, which saw the pump price soar to N1,030 per litre. This comes amidst the hardships already caused by the removal of fuel subsidies and other government economic measures. The senator emphasized the dire situation in Borno, noting that many families were suffering, and farmers could no longer afford the cost of transporting their goods to market.
Ndume stated, “I personally believe President Bola Ahmed Tinubu means well for Nigeria and Nigerians. I know this because I know what he stands for. But some of his advisers who don’t mean well for the people of this country give him wrong advice."
He urged the president to distance himself from these individuals, warning that their actions are worsening the hardship faced by Nigerians. Ndume appealed to President Tinubu, upon his return to the country, to urgently address these issues, especially the growing economic strain, which is eroding the purchasing power of ordinary citizens.
