The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved a revised training curriculum for new recruits, marking a major step toward bolstering the professionalism and operational capability of the Nigeria Police Force. The new curriculum, designed to align with international best practices, aims to prepare recruits for the complexities of policing in Nigeria and equip them to tackle modern security challenges.
The updated training program covers a wide range of topics essential for effective law enforcement. These include the Police Act 2020, the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy, anti-corruption laws, and the Cybercrime Act 2015, among others. Additionally, the curriculum incorporates courses on gender mainstreaming, social media conduct, artificial intelligence, combat crafts, election security, and the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities Prohibition Act. Recruits will also receive training in human relations, public speaking, cartography, and attitudinal changes to foster a community-oriented approach to policing.
IGP Egbetokun’s endorsement of this comprehensive curriculum underscores his commitment to enhancing intellectual and capacity building within the force. The aim is to ensure that recruits are not only well-trained in legal and technical aspects but also attuned to societal expectations, thereby strengthening public trust in the police.
