President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded the names of the inaugural Governing Board members of the North West Development Commission (NWDC) to the Senate for confirmation. This move follows the President’s signing of the North West Development Commission Bill into law on July 24, 2024, establishing the NWDC as a critical institution tasked with driving the region's development.

The nominees for the Governing Board include prominent figures from across the North-West states, reflecting a diverse and experienced group of individuals ready to steer the Commission's operations. Ambassador Haruna Ginsau from Jigawa has been nominated as Chairman, while Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji from Kano is set to serve as the Managing Director/CEO. Other members include Dr. Yahaya Umar Namahe (Sokoto), Hon. Aminu Suleiman (Kebbi), Sen. Tijani Yahaya Kaura (Zamfara), Hon. Abdulkadir S. Usman (Kaduna), Hon. Engr. Muhammad Ali Wudil (Kano), Shamsu Sule (Katsina), and Nasidi Ali (Jigawa).

These individuals are expected to bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Commission, which has the mandate of fostering economic empowerment, regional growth, and social development in the North West. President Tinubu’s unwavering support for the NWDC reflects his broader commitment to ensuring sustainable development in the region, with the aim of addressing long-standing challenges and unlocking new opportunities for the people.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the submission of the nominees on September 28, 2024, emphasizing the administration’s resolve to promote balanced development across Nigeria. The Senate’s prompt confirmation of the nominees is eagerly awaited, as the NWDC prepares to embark on its important mission.
