President Bola Tinubu, in his capacity as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, has called upon African and global leaders to embrace multilateralism and innovation as vital tools to secure sustainable peace and development. Speaking at the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing, the President urged the international community to reject protectionism and work towards inclusive partnerships that foster mutual respect and fairness.
Addressing challenges such as food insecurity and armed conflict, President Tinubu emphasized that these issues can only be tackled through collaborative efforts. He commended the African Union's consistent advocacy for peace through the "Silencing the Guns Initiative" and highlighted Nigeria’s pivotal role in maintaining security across West Africa.
"True peace is not merely the absence of war, but the presence of justice, equity, economic opportunity, and human security," Tinubu stressed, adding that Nigeria will continue to uphold good governance and regional stability through a blend of diplomacy, economic collaboration, and military intervention. The President further praised China's contributions to Africa's development and reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to peacebuilding efforts across the continent.
This address marks another critical step in Nigeria’s leadership role within ECOWAS and its broader commitment to fostering global peace.
