The National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF) has once again demonstrated its commitment to promoting good health across Nigeria by donating state-of-the-art medical equipment and an ultra-modern mortuary complex to the General Hospital Umuezeoka, Ebonyi State. This intervention follows a thorough need assessment carried out by the NLTF after a formal request from the Umuezeoka Community Development Association.
The medical equipment donated includes a digital ultrasound machine, an X-ray machine, suction machines, and stethoscopes, all aimed at improving the hospital’s capacity to provide essential healthcare services. During the official handover, NLTF’s Executive Secretary, Comrade Tosin Adeyanju, emphasized that the donation was part of President Bola Tinubu’s vision to enhance the nation's healthcare system through initiatives supporting "Good Causes."
"This project is a testament to President Bola Tinubu's commitment to promoting good health and well-being in Nigeria," Adeyanju stated. He further encouraged the hospital and community to maintain the equipment, assuring that NLTF staff would periodically monitor its condition to ensure optimal use.
The donation extends beyond the hospital’s immediate needs, as the ultra-modern mortuary complex includes a secure building, fencing, a 50kva generator for consistent power, a 6-body morgue freezer, and a cadaver perfusion table. These enhancements will greatly benefit the community, reducing the distance previously traveled to access mortuary services.
Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, lauded the NLTF's initiative, expressing gratitude for the federal government’s direct intervention without soliciting state resources. He praised NLTF for remembering the South East, especially during times of economic challenges. Dr. Ekuma Moses Ikenna, the state’s Commissioner for Health, further announced that the government had employed a pathologist to extend the mortuary into a reference center.
The community expressed deep appreciation, with traditional ruler Eze Samuel Ofiagwu promising the judicial use of the facility. Dr. Stanley Okafor, Medical Director of the hospital, echoed the sentiment, calling on the community to protect the facility and attract further projects from NLTF.
This intervention brings the total number of NLTF projects in Ebonyi to six, reinforcing the agency’s significant contributions to healthcare and sports development in the state. The NLTF’s actions reflect its broader mandate to support education, environment, disaster management, and other critical sectors across Nigeria.
