The Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has made significant strides in its ongoing battle against crime, recording the arrest of 2,740 suspects linked to various criminal activities across the country within just one month. The efforts of the police, now employing diversified tactics, have resulted in the dismantling of a major gunrunning syndicate operating in the Bauchi-Plateau region.
Among the arrested individuals was Taimako Mato, the syndicate’s leader and a former Boko Haram weapons instructor. Recovered from the group were a PKT machine gun and large amounts of ammunition. The crackdown also led to the apprehension of 295 armed robbery suspects, 186 kidnappers, 271 murder suspects, and 199 individuals involved in sexual offenses. In addition to these arrests, the police rescued 129 kidnapped victims and recovered 111 stolen vehicles.
IGP Egbetokun reiterated the Nigeria Police's commitment to protecting lives and property, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in the fight against crime.
