The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced the death of notorious terrorist kingpin, Halilu Sububu, along with 38 of his associates, in a coordinated joint operation. Sububu, infamous for terrorizing communities in Zamfara, Sokoto, Niger, and Kaduna States, met his end on September 12, 2024, during a raid near Mayanchi.
Group Captain Kabiru Ali, Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, confirmed the operation, stating, "In a decisive joint operation led by three personnel of the Nigerian Air Force Special Forces, a notorious bandit, Halilu Sububu, and over 38 terrorists were neutralized during an engagement near Mayanchi."
Sububu, who gained infamy for his audacious 2021 attack on a military base in Katsina, where several soldiers were killed, had long been a target of military operations. His death comes shortly after another terrorist kingpin, Halilu Buzu, was neutralized by the Nigerian Army in Zamfara.
The successful operation also resulted in the recovery of a significant cache of weapons, including 3 PKT machine guns, 5 AK-47 rifles, 29 magazines, and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition. The NAF Special Forces, working in conjunction with ground troops, launched a follow-up mission to secure the area and verify the identities of the neutralized terrorists.
While the NAF continues to demonstrate its professionalism and effectiveness in tackling terrorism, the question remains: Will the elimination of terrorist kingpins like Sububu bring an end to the violence that has plagued innocent Nigerians for years?
As the military intensifies its operations, the nation watches with hope that these victories will translate into lasting peace for the communities that have long suffered under the terror of bandits.
